My Experience

Tucked away in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean, Cyprus is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered by new travellers. With its ancient ruins and picturesque beaches, this enchanting island has something for everyone. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to visit this amazing place, especially since some of my family recently relocated there. The abundance of sunshine, the serene atmosphere and the opportunity to unwind after a hectic few months made it an unforgettable experience. If you’re intrigued by the idea of visiting this captivating location, make sure to read on about the top attractions and the most exciting activities this wonderful country has to offer.

For me I stayed just around 1 hour from Paphos and luckily enough to have a car for transportation around the island. From east to west the island is around 240km so my first top recommendation is to hire a car for a visit to Cyprus as there is not many public transportation options. If you are staying near Limassol there are few top recommendations I would add to the list for day trips and exploring around the island.

Must-See Places

Lofou

One is a cute little village called Lofou. It is situated in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, it is known for its picturesque stone-built houses, narrow winding streets, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The village has a rich history dating back centuries, with many of its buildings and structures reflecting its traditional Cypriot architecture. Lofou's old quarter has been carefully preserved, offering visitors a glimpse into Cyprus's rural past. The village is surrounded by vineyards, and wine production is an important part of the local economy, with several wineries offering tastings and tours in the area. It offers visitors a peaceful retreat from the bustling cities and coastal resorts of Cyprus and is definitely a place to add to your list of day trips away in Cyprus.

Food stop

Chris Blue Beach is a popular restaurant located near Kourion Beach, Limassol. It is known for its beautiful seaside setting, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the nearby ancient ruins of Kourion, a significant archaeological site that I would also highly recommend. This was an excellent experience and day trip for me because I was about to enjoy both the beach and the historical attractions in the area. This restaurant is renowned for its fresh seafood dishes, traditional Cypriot cuisine and Mediterranean flavours. The menu includes a variety of options including grilled fish, calamari, octopus and local meze platter. It is located in a relaxed setting next to the panoramic sea views, making it a perfect sport for a leisurely meal or romantic dinner. Whether you're looking for a casual lunch after a day at the beach or a special dinner with a view, this spot offers a memorable dining experience in one of Cyprus's most picturesque coastal settings.

Limassol

In the last night in Cyprus we made our way to Limassol which is Cyprus’s second largest city which offers a vibrant mix of modern attractions, beautiful beaches and a bustling nightlife. There are so many different things to see and explore that there was most definitely not enough time in the evening. The old town in the heart of Limassol has charming narrow streets, local boutiques and incredible street art and murals that you can’t miss out on. A trendy local bar that you must add when exploring Limassol is ‘Juego Café’ which is a popular spot known for its vibrant atmosphere and delicious food. What was unique about this place it has a ceiling full of colourful umbrella’s which set the scene for an epic night of socialising, watching sport and enjoying the local atmosphere. Around the corner which is about a 5 minute walk from there is the best ice cream store in Limassol (my opinion). Prepare for embarking on a sensory journey at Anita Gelato which offers a variety of incredible gelato flavours. Whether you opt for a cone, cup or a decadent sundae, every bite will leave you wanting more. From €4.50 (EUR) per scoop, it is definitely worth every penny and will be a food location that you will be recommending to other travellers for the future.

Unforgettable Moments

Wineries

Make sure to visit Zambartas Wineries which is around 15 minutes drive for a unique wine tasting experience. Sample premium local wines paired with a delicious platter while taking in the stunning mountain and vineyard views. With expert guidance and knowledge throughout the tasting, you’ll surely find a wine to take home and savor. The tastings are available every day of the week, and prices may vary depending on the chosen experience, starting from €7.50 (EUR) per person for 20-30 minutes and going up to €22.50 (EUR) per person for 60-90 minutes. If this piques your interest, make sure to reach out to them through their website.

Beaches

When it comes to Cyprus, it’s impossible not to mention its stunning beaches. Personally, I can’t get enough of the glorious sunshine while on vacation, and I’m sure many others feel the exact same way. I only wish I had more time to discover all the breath-taking beaches that dot the Mediterranean coastline. However, if you’re looking for the ultimate beach getaway, look no further than Nissi Beach. Situated in the charming resort town of Ayia Napa on Cyprus’ southeastern coast, it is a true beach paradise. This famous place is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, offering an array of thrilling activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, and paddleboarding. It also is a fantastic sport for snorkelling and scuba diving, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant marine life and fascinating rock formations beneath the crystal-clear waters.

Would I return?

Absolutely!

Cyprus is an absolute gem! The combination of ancient history, stunning beaches, delicious food, and wonderful people makes it one of my favorite Mediterranean destinations. It offers something for everyone - from party seekers in Ayia Napa to history buffs in Paphos to beach lovers everywhere. The weather is reliably fantastic, it's relatively affordable, and it's easy to get around. I can't wait to return and explore more of the island, especially the less touristy areas and more mountain villages. Cyprus has stolen a piece of my heart!
